Urdu Literary Works of Iqbal to Be Translated Into Persian

TEHRAN, June 28 (Mehr News Agency) –- Two prominent Persian translators working in Iqbal Academy have recently begun the translation of Urdu literary works of Iqbal Lahori into Persian language.

Iran’s Cultural House in Lahore as well as Iqbalogy Section of Punjab University are to help the translators in their attempts.

Cosponsored by Iqbal Academy in Pakistan and Secretariat of Dialogue among Civilizations, the academy aims to create the chance for Persian language speakers to get more familiar with thoughts and philosophy of Iqbal written in Urdu language.

Iqbal (1873-1938), Pakistani philosopher and poet was born in Sialkot, Pakistan. Iqbal was considered the foremost Muslim thinker of his day. His poetry and philosophy, written in Urdu and Persian, stress the rebirth of Islamic and spiritual redemption through self-development, moral integrity, and individual freedom. His many works include Asar-e khudi (The Secrets of the Self, 1915), a long poem; Payam-e Mashreq (A Message from the East, 1923); and The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam (1934).
